A candid mother-daughter conversation

Hello everyone!

So today, I’m the passenger princess with Ami Ma’am Ratta, and we’re heading out on a long drive. While driving, we thought—why not turn this into a meaningful conversation?

Most of what we discuss here is about parenting, experiences, and real-life lessons. I’ll be asking her a few questions, and as always, she has some amazing insights to share.

I hope you enjoy this conversation.

Curfews, Safety & Parenting Decisions

Let’s start with something practical—curfews.

As daughters, we often have to be home by a certain time for safety reasons. So the question is—
Would you apply the same rules to your son?

The answer is simple:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Parenting decisions are not based on gender
๐Ÿ‘‰ They are based on safety and awareness

If I feel my child is not safe in a situation, I will step in—regardless of whether it’s a boy or a girl.

And yes, sometimes your child may not be happy with your decision at that moment…
but as a parent, their safety always comes first.

Communication Over Control

But here’s where most parents go wrong.

Instead of saying:
๐Ÿ‘‰ “I’m your parent, so listen to me.”

Try saying:
๐Ÿ‘‰ “I want you to be happy, but this is my concern…”

When you communicate your reasoning, your child:

  • Feels respected

  • Understands your intent

  • Becomes more cooperative

Parenting is not about control—it’s about connection and clarity.

3 Powerful Parenting Tips

1. Consistency is Everything

Don’t wait for problems to arise and then react.

Instead:

  • Build strong values daily

  • Create an environment where the child already understands right from wrong

So when a situation comes, handling it becomes easy.

2. Clarity in Decisions

Be clear about what you want as a parent.

Once your vision is clear:

  • Take action

  • Seek help if needed

  • Stay committed

Sometimes, convincing your child may require:

  • Talking to others

  • Involving someone they trust

And that’s okay.

3. Stay Flexible, Not Rigid

Life always offers alternatives.

If something isn’t working:

  • Adjust your approach

  • Stay open-minded

Parenting is not about being perfect—it’s about being adaptable.

Top Parenting Principles (Real & Practical)

1. Your Happiness Matters

If you are not happy or emotionally balanced, you cannot give your best to your child.

๐Ÿ‘‰ You cannot pour from an empty cup.

2. Love Must Be Unconditional

Even when you discipline your child:

  • Never withdraw your love

Your child should always feel:
๐Ÿ‘‰ “No matter what happens, my parents love me.”

3. Build a Safe Relationship

Your child should feel comfortable sharing anything with you.

Not out of fear—but out of trust and openness.

4. Respect Between Parents

Parenting is a shared journey.

The way parents:

  • Talk to each other

  • Respect each other

Directly impacts the child’s emotional development.

The Concept of “Thin Line Parenting”

This is one of the most powerful ideas.

Parenting always exists between two extremes:

โŒ Over-protection
โŒ Too much freedom

The challenge is to stay on the thin line in between.

  • Too much restriction → limits growth

  • Too much freedom → exposes risk

The goal is balance.

Real Example: Letting Go vs Holding Back

Sending a child abroad (like to New York) is not easy.

As parents:

  • You worry

  • You feel uncertain

But if you don’t allow it:
๐Ÿ‘‰ You may limit their growth and dreams

Initially, you stay cautious.
Over time, as trust builds—you step back.

That’s balanced parenting.

Feeling Like a “Bad Parent”?

Many parents feel:
๐Ÿ‘‰ “I’m not doing enough”
๐Ÿ‘‰ “I’m failing”

But here’s the truth:

You are not a superhuman.
You are not a perfect parent.

And that’s okay.

The Importance of Self-Compassion

Just like you are patient with your child…

๐Ÿ‘‰ Be patient with yourself too.

Because:

  • Anger is harmful

  • But guilt is even more damaging

Instead of blaming yourself:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Ask — “What can I do better next time?”

Final Thought

Parenting is not about perfection.
It’s about:

  • Awareness

  • Effort

  • Love

  • Growth

And most importantly—
being present and intentional every single day.
